New eyes, new sight
On how meeting Reality changes everything, 01.11.25
I will tell you this: nothing
will make you feel crazier
than the first time you brush the hem
of Reality.
You blink, as if waking from a forever-sleep,
your head feels like a bowl of light,
everything laid bare, dazzling in its clarity,
just for a moment.
Then, in the space of a gasp,
you’re back on the ground, in a world
where all the mental toil to fix and figure out
is a layer of soot that dampens every true color.
But you can’t forget what you’ve seen.
Your body remembers everything, rinsed and alive.
That light keeps dancing right behind your eyes,
illuminating every single thing.
Then, when the emperors
and would-be kings
thump their chests and bellow threats,
you can’t go back to seeing them as strong.
With new eyes, new sight,
you see: Oh. They’re just children,
begging to be loved, starving for a food
they’ve never tasted.
